On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Sergei Parajanov, an event took place at the Ponrepo Cinema of the Czech National Film Archive

On February 9, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Sergei Parajanov, the screening of the restored version of the film “The Color of Pomegranates” (Sayat Nova) took place at the Ponrepo Cinema of the Czech National Film Archive, which ended a series of retrospective screenings of the Armenian filmmaker's films launched in September 2023.The initiative is the result of cooperation between the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Czech National Film Archive; it received exceptional appreciation from the Czech audience, as evidenced by the high attendance at all film screenings.

General Director of the Czech National Film Archive Michal Bregant, Director of Cinema David Havas, Ambassador of Armenia to Czechia Ashot Hovakimian, Ambassador of Georgia to Czechia Tea Maisuradze and Counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine Yevhen Kulesha made welcoming remarks. The Parajanov's cinematography and the life and poetry of Sayat Nova were presented by the cultural expert Jaromír Typlt, reciting the poems of the Armenian medieval poet, translated into Czech.

The Ambassador of Armenia thanked the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the National Film Archive for their cooperation and support to the initiative, emphasizing Parajanov's invaluable contribution to the international, as well as Armenian, Georgian and Ukrainian national cinematography. In the current year, the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Parajanov, included in the UNESCO Calendar of Famous People and Important Events, will be jointly held in Czechia by the three Embassies.
