Ambassador to Slovenia Ashot Hovakimian in Ljubljana participated in the solemn opening of the Diplomatic Conference

On May 15, Ambassador to Slovenia Ashot Hovakimian in Ljubljana participated in the solemn opening of the Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of the Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes and other International Crimes (MLA Convention). Zoya Stepanyan, First Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, represented Armenia at the conference as an observer country.

On the same day, the Armenian Ambassador was received by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of Slovenia, Igor Papič. During the meeting, the perspectives of promoting cooperation between Armenia and Slovenia in the aforementioned fields, the possibilities of student exchange within the framework of EU educational programs were discussed.

The meetings with Samuel Žbogar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Miriam Možgan, Advisor to the President of Slovenia on Foreign Policy, and Berta Mrak, Director of the Eastern Europe, South Caucasus, Central Asia and Arctic Department of the MFEA, were focused on expanding the bilateral agenda, organizing high-level visits, political consultations. on cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The Ambassador presented in detail the regional developments, emphasized the importance of addressing the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor, the return of Armenian prisoners of war and other humanitarian issues, noting that provocative and aggressive actions by Azerbaijan do not contribute to efforts to establish lasting peace in the region.

The Ambassador also had a meeting with the Director of the "Promotion of Human Security" (ITF) Foundation, Ambassador Tomaž Lovrenčič, expressing his satisfaction with the implementation in 2022 of the "Psychological-social rehabilitation of children affected by the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh" project by the foundation. The details of the Slovenian Government's decision to extend the program of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation of Armenian Children, Victims of the Last Armed Conflict for two years were discussed.
