Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian visited Montenegro

On November 9, Ambassador to Montenegro Ashot Hovakimian was received in the Parliament of Montenegro by the President of the Parliament Danijela Đurović and the Vice President of the Parliament, the head of the Montenegro-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Branka Bošnjak. The Ambassador presented in detail the consequences of Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia, emphasized the need for the immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia and the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war. The urgency of activating cooperation between the friendship groups formed in the both Parliaments, the mutual visits and information exchange were highlighted. The Parliament of Montenegro supports the restoration of cooperation between Yerevan and Podgorica and the project of establishing a TUMO center in Podgorica.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Ambassador A.Hovakimian had a meeting with the newly appointed State Secretary Miodrag Šćepanović, during which the current issues and perspectives of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

On the same day, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian attended the solemn scientific session organized by the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, which was dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the first edition of the famous poem "Mountain Wreath" (Gorski Vijenac) by the ruler and spiritual leader of Montenegro, poet, philosopher Petar II Petrović-Njegoš (1813-1851). The book was published in 1847 in Vienna, in the printing house of the Armenian Mekhitarist Congregation, under the direct supervision of the author. Three more books by Njegoš were published in the same printing house in different years.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Armenia, presenting the cooperation of Njegoš with the Mekhitarist fathers, described it as the most important milestone of Armenian-Montenegrin cultural ties. The Ambassador also presented the materials and translations published in the Armenian press about Montenegro and Montenegrins, in particular, the booklet "Montenegrins" published in Tiflis in 1890. A.Hovakimian thanked the Presidency of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts for convening the session, especially on the eve of the new state holiday, celebrated for the first time in Montenegro, the Day of the birth of Njegoš (November 13). Academician Nenad Vuković and professor Siniša Jelušić, the Corresponding member of the Academy, also spoke at the session. The event was attended by the Academician Dragan K. Vukčević, President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro, Karl Michael Müller, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Montenegro, many scientists, journalists and friends of the Armenian people; it was widely covered by the Montenegrin press and television.
