Official ceremony of handing over of state decorations of the Republic of Armenia

On April 25, at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Czech Republic a ceremony took place, during which the state decorations of the Republic of Armenia, awarded on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s independence to Czech human rights activist, publicist and journalist Dana Mazalová (posthumously) and prominent Czech journalist, writer and politician Jaromír Štětina were officially handed over.

Dana Mazalová, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, has posthumously been awarded with a “Medal of Gratitude” and Jaromír Štětina, by the Order of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, has been awarded with a “Medal of Honour” for their significant contribution made to the establishment, strengthening and development of friendly relations with the Republic of Armenia and for their contribution to the protection of universal values.

The Ambassador highly appreciated the significant contribution of the friends of the Armenian people towards promoting the coverage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Artsakh's right to self-determination, as well as the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. A minute of silence was observed in memory of Dana Mazalová.

The event was attended by Dana Mazalová’s relatives and a number of representatives of Czech public and journalistic circles, who have visited Armenia and Artsakh several times and have stood out for their efforts in raising awareness on the Armenian Genocide and in the coverage of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Dana Mazalová (1954-2020), a devoted friend of the Armenian people, TV journalist, publicist, prominent intellectual, who played a major role in covering the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, debunking of the Azerbaijani falsifications and recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Czech press and on television. Dana Mazalová has repeatedly spoken at various events in the Czech Republic, calling on the Czech parliament to recognize the Armenian Genocide. She has given numerous interviews both in the Czech press and in the Armenian and Diaspora media.

 

Jaromír Štětina, a former senator who visited Artsakh as a military journalist, a former member of the European Parliament, the human rights defender, the founder of a number of prominent Czech media outlets, a well-known Czech publicist and a longtime friend of the Armenian people, who, together with Dana Mazalová, has for over 30 years been a prominent supporter of Armenia and Artsakh.
