On April 22-23, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian paid a working visit to the Vysočina Region and the city of Brno of the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic.

In Jihlava, the capital of the Vysočina Region, the Ambassador met with the Mayor of Jihlava Karolína Koubová and Deputy Mayor Petr Ryška, followed by a meeting with the Governor of the Vysočina Region Vítězslav Schrek. During the meetings the sides discussed the possibilities of inter-regional cooperation and joint cultural initiatives. The parties touched upon issues related to the presence and activities of the Armenian community in the region, as well as the role of the latter in raising awareness in the region about Armenia. The sides referred to the opportunities for cooperation within the EU EaP framework and discussed the prospects of collaboration in the educational sphere. Reference was made to the recent geopolitical developments; the Ambassador presented to the interlocutors the latest developments around the Nagorno Karabakh and the current challenges.

Within the framework of the visit, the Deputy Governor of the Vysočina Region for Culture, Monument Care, Tourism and International Relations Roman Fabeš accompanied Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian to the Zelená Hora area of the Žďár nad Sázavou, where the delegation visited the church of St. Jan Nepomucký, inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites.

Mr. Fabeš further accompanied the Ambassador to the village of Sázava, where the parties, with the participation of the Head of the village František Ledvinka, laid flowers at the grave of private Arshavir Davidyan, an Armenian soldier who died in a local hospital at the end of World War II.

On the same day, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian and the Spiritual Pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary Archimandrite Barsegh Pilavchyan laid a wreath at the Khachkar (cross-stone) in Jihlava in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

On April 23, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian visited Brno, where he met with the Armenian students in Brno, after which the Ambassador attended the Liturgical Service in remembrance of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
