Working visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian to the City of Novi Sad, the capital of the Serbian Autonomous Province of Vojvodina

On March 1-2, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian, within the framework of a working visit to the City of Novi Sad, the capital of the Serbian Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, was received by the Mayor of Novi Sad Miloš Vučević and the President of the City Assembly of Novi Sad Jelena Marinković Radomirović. The parties referred to the cooperation with the Novi Sad, as European Capital of Culture 2022, the establishment of partnership relations between the cities of Gyumri in Armenia and Novi Sad, the possibility of cooperation in economic, cultural, high-tech and other spheres, especially taking into account the historical presence of Armenians in Novi Sad and their cultural heritage.

The Ambassador visited the University of Novi Sad and met with the Rector of the University, Professor Dejan Madić and the Vice Rector for International Cooperation prof. dr Sabina Halupka-Rešetar. The prospects of cooperation with the Armenian universities, the establishment of partnerships, the holding of joint events and the opportunities for student exchange were discussed.

The Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian attended the "Accents" exhibition, opened in the Museum of Novi Sad within the framework of the events of the European Capital of Culture, and dedicated to the history and culture of the city. Some samples of Novi Sad's Armenian historical heritage are presented at the exhibition; particularly the plaque in Armenian language on the founding of the church in the center of Novi Sad (was demolished in 1963). During the tour, the Ambassador was accompanied by the organizer of the exhibition, author of the monograph "The Armenian Church of Novi Sad" Ljiljana Lazić.
