A conference was organized in Belgrade on the initiative of the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity

On May 22, in Belgrade, on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, a conference entitled “From Local Initiatives to Global Impact – Serbia on the Road to CBD COP17” was organized at the initiative of Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia. The conference was dedicated to the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), to be held in Yerevan in October 2026.

At the opening of the event a message by the Ambassador of Armenia to Serbia, Ashot Hovakimian, was read out. In the message the Armenia’s priorities as the host country of COP17, were presented, as well as the importance of the forthcoming conference in Yerevan in the context of biodiversity conservation and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Speeches were delivered by the Ambassador of Sweden to Serbia, Charlotte Sammelin, the Minister of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, Sara Pavkov, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia, Yakup Berish.

The conference also featured panel discussions dedicated to the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework in Serbia, as well as issues related to biodiversity conservation, restoration, and sustainable management.
