The official opening ceremony of the exhibition "Dearer than blood, dearer than life. Endangered Heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh" was held at the Jiři Mahen Municipal Library in Brno

03 July, 2024

On July 3, the official opening ceremony of the exhibition "Dearer than blood, dearer than life. Endangered Heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh" was held at the Jiři Mahen Municipal Library in Brno. The exhibition, which will run till September 1, is dedicated to the history of the endangered cultural monuments of Nagorno-Karabakh, such as Gandzasar, Dadivank, Vankasar, Gtchavank, Bri Yeghtsi and Handaberd.

Ambassador of Armenia to Czechia Ashot Hovakimian addressed the Czech listeners present at the event with an opening speech. The Ambassador noted that as a result of the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh with the use of force by Azerbaijan in September 2023, the Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh is currently subjected to continuous destruction, desecration and appropriation. The importance of organizing the exhibition in cooperation with the Early Medieval Studies Center was emphasized for the protection of the history, identity and cultural memory of the Armenian spiritual and cultural centers of Nagorno-Karabakh. Exhibition coordinator Gayane Achverdjan and members of the working group of the Center for Early Medieval Studies presented their concept and activities.

The exhibition was organized within the framework of the cooperation program established between the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno and the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Czech Republic, with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
