Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian’s working visit to the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic

On February 19, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian visited the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic and had a meeting with the Governor of the region Martin Kuba, who presented the main directions of economic and social development of the region. The Ambassador informed about the bilateral agenda of the Armenian-Czech cooperation, the existing experience of interregional cooperation between Armenia and Czechia, and the security situation created around Armenia.

During the meeting with the Mayor of České Budějovice Dagmar Škodová-Parmová, the possibilities of the active interaction in the scientific, economic, cultural spheres, the organization of exhibitions dedicated to the Armenian historical and cultural heritage in the city were discussed.

Within the framework of the visit, the Ambassador had a meeting with the Rector of the University of South Bohemia Bohumil Jiroušek, who accompanied Ambassador on a tour of the University. The Vice-Rector for external relations Radka Závodská presented the structure and activity directions of the University, and the joint programs implemented with Armenian partners from the Bryusov State University within the framework of the Erasmus+ International mobility and teaching/training opportunity program in 2020-2023, as well as the planned activities program with the Armenian National Agrarian University for the period 2023-2026.

During the visit, the Ambassador paid tribute to the memory of Karel Hansa, a Czech writer, traveler, humanist, friend of the Armenian people, author of the book "The Horrors of the East" documenting the Armenian Genocide, by visiting and laying flowers at the Hansa family grave and a plaque dedicated to Hansa on the facade of the house where the writer spent his childhood and teenage years.
