On November 12, after a long illness, at the age of 86, Karel Schwarzenberg, a prominent Czech politician, former foreign minister, member of parliament, senator, founder and honorary chairman of the TOP 09 party, a close associate of Vaclav Havel, passed away.

In recent years, Karel Schwarzenberg was one of the few political leaders in the Czech Republic, who consistently publicly voiced the need to ensure the security of Armenia and the Armenian people, against the genocide and use of brutal force.

On June 20, 2022, Karel Schwarzenberg was awarded the Mkhitar Gosh Medal for his significant contribution to the establishment, strengthening and development of friendly relations with the Republic of Armenia and his important contribution to the protection of universal values.
