The official opening ceremony of the exhibition "Until a stone is left on a stone: the cultural heritage of the medieval Kingdoms of Armenia" was held in the Jiři Mahen Library in Brno

09 October, 2023

On October 9, the official opening ceremony of the exhibition "Until a stone is left on a stone: the cultural heritage of the medieval Kingdoms of Armenia" was held in the Jiři Mahen Library in Brno. The exhibition, which will run for a month, is dedicated to the history of the endangered cultural monuments of medieval Armenia, such as Mren, Horomos and Khtskonkh.

Ambassador of Armenia to Czechia Ashot Hovakimian made an opening speech at the event. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the Center for Early Medieval Studies and the unwavering dedication of its members to promote the history of the Armenian medieval cultural heritage, which is an irreplaceable value for the Armenian identity and cultural memory, the Ambassador presented the policy of ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the massive violations of human rights and crimes, stressing that in the current situation, the Armenian spiritual and cultural centers of Nagorno-Karabakh, which came under the control of Azerbaijan, are endangered and on the verge of destruction.

This was followed by a lecture by Ivan Foletti, head of the Center for Early Medieval Studies, about the extraordinary charm and complex history of the 7th-century Mren Cathedral, which was attended by many Czech listeners.

The exhibition was organized within the framework of the cooperation program established between the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno and the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Czech Republic, with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
