Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian was received by the Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević

11 May, 2023

On May 11, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian was received by the Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević. During the meeting, the possibilities of establishing partnership relations between Zagreb and Yerevan and bilateral relations between Armenia and Croatia were discussed.

The Ambassador briefed the interlocutor on the security situation in the region, and on the humanitarian crisis created as a result of Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor.

On the evening of May 11, a panel discussion on "Armenia through the Eyes of Croats" was held at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb, which was initiated and organized by Alina Gishyan, an Armenian artist living in Croatia, with the support of a number of other members of the Armenian community. The event was held under the high patronage of Ambassador of Armenia to Croatia Ashot Hovakimian and with the support of AGBU France.

After the welcoming speech of Ambassador Hovakimian, the pianist Eva Kirchmayer Bilić, writer Zdravko Vampovac and historian Vinicije Lupis presented Armenia through their studies and travels.

At the end of the event, Eva Kirchmayer Bilić and singer Klasja Modrušan performed the song "Chinar Es" by Komitas.

Among those present were Davor Ivo Stier, Head of the Croatia-Armenia Friendship Group of the Croatian Parliament, and the members of the Group Domagoj Hajduković and Erik Fabijanić, historians, journalists, artists, friends of Armenia and Armenians living in Croatia.

On May 12, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian was received by Sebastian Rogač, Director General of the General Directorate for Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. The Ambassador also had a meeting with the Director of the Eurasia and Oceania Department of the Ministry, Dunja Sičaja. During the meetings, the trend of activation of bilateral relations between Armenia and Croatia and the expansion of the spheres of cooperation were noted with satisfaction.

The Ambassador emphasized the importance of addressing the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the return of Armenian prisoners of war and other humanitarian issues, noting that provocative and aggressive actions by Azerbaijan do not contribute to efforts to establish long-term peace in the region.
