02 May, 2025

On May 2-3, Ambassador Ashot Hovakiman participated in a diplomatic outing to the Osijek-Baranja region organized by the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Croatia.

Ambassadors had the opportunity to participate in a rich program that included a panel on sports diplomacy, visits to Osijek and Kopački Rit, a tour of a wine cellar, tastings of Slavonian specialties, and an introduction to the region’s gastronomy. The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and the representatives of Croatian sports federations, addressed the participants of the panel “Sports Diplomacy, Politics, and Branding”, emphasizing that sport transcends borders and builds bridges among nations.

On May 5, the Ambassador visited the Osijek Municipality, where he met with the President of the City Council Tihomir Florijančić and the directors of the economic and cultural departments of the Municipality. The prospects for possible cooperation with Armenia were discussed. The Ambassador presented information about the long-standing presence of Armenians in Osijek, in particular, the fact that the first coffee shop in the city was founded in 1718 by the Armenian merchant Hovhannes Manuk (Ivan Manuch).
