The Czechia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group operating in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, under the chairmanship of Marek Benda, hosted the Ambassador of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian

29 September, 2022

On September 29, the Czechia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group operating in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, under the chairmanship of Marek Benda, hosted the Ambassador of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian for a briefing on the situation in Armenia and around its borders, resulting from the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia.

A. Hovakimian introduced the group members to the realities following the Artsakh War, the current situation and the existing challenges, presenting in detail the situation created as a result of the intrusion of Azerbaijani forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia from last year and the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Armenian sovereign territory this September. The Ambassador pointed out the cases where border settlements and civil infrastructures were deliberately targeted, the mass displacements resulting thereof and the existing humanitarian challenges. A special reference was made to the issues of Armenian prisoners of war, war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, as well as the threats to the Armenian historical and cultural heritage under the control of Azerbaijan. A. Hovakimian briefed those present about the efforts of the Armenian side towards promoting the peace agenda in the region and further answered the questions raised by the group members.
