On March 28-29, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian was on a working visit to Montenegro.

In the old capital Cetinje, the Ambassador was received by Joanikije II, the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral. During the conversation the need to restore the Armenian-Montenegrin cultural and spiritual ties and the explosive situation in Europe were discussed. The Ambassador presented to the Metropolitan the facts of Azerbaijan's encroachments on the Armenian rich spiritual wealth in Artsakh.

The meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament, Chairman of the Montenegro-Armenia Interparliamentary Friendship Group Branka Bošnjak was dedicated to the prospects for the development of cooperation between the parliaments. The interlocutors discussed in detail the situation in the Western Balkans and the South Caucasus, especially from the point of view of small states.

The Ambassador visited the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Montenegro and met with the President of the Academy, Academician Dragan K. Vukčević. The possibilities of cooperation between the academic institutions of the two countries were discussed, especially in the fields of social sciences, high technologies, tourism management.

The prospects of cooperation in the spheres of high technologies, agriculture, tourism, the activation of trade and economic ties, the visits of business delegations were the key topics of the Ambassador's meeting with the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro Pavle Radovanović. This revitalization may be facilitated by the restoration of the partnership established between Yerevan and Podgorica (formerly Titograd) during the Soviet years.

The Ambassador also had meetings with the General Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, Sports, the Ministry of Economy, the Special Adviser to the President, as well as a number of deputies of the Parliament and Ambassadors.

At the invitation of the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic, the Ambassador Hovakimian was present at the wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to the hero of the Greek Revolution in 1821, General Vaso Brajović (Mavrovouniotis), which was attended by the President of Montenegro, the Mayor of Podgorica and many other officials.
