On October 7-8, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian paid a working visit to Serbia

On October 7-8, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian paid a working visit to Serbia. On October 7, the Ambassador met with Aleksandar Čotrić, the Chairman of the Serbia-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the members of the Group, after which a joint press conference was held. Mr. Čotrić stressed the need for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship, called on the Azerbaijani side to return all Armenian prisoners of war and illegally detained persons, and expressed concern over humanitarian access issues in the region and the destruction of Armenian historical and cultural monuments.

On the same day, the Ambassador was received by the President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ivica Dačić. The steps aimed at activating the bilateral parliamentary ties, the parliamentary cooperation on international platforms were discussed, the situation prevailing in the two regions was presented. Ambassador Hovakimian conveyed to Dačić the invitation of Alen Simonyan, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, to visit Armenia.

Ambassador also visited the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade. The prospects of cooperation between the Belgrade and Yerevan Universities and the opportunities for the development of the Armenian Studies were discussed with the Dean Iva Draškić Vićanović.

On October 8, Ambassador Hovakimian gave an extensive live interview to the popular Serbian "Happy TV".
