On October 5, the first conference of Czech Armenologists, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Armenia's independence, and the official presentation of the Armenian Chair took place in the main hall of the Rectorate of the Charles University in Prague

On October 5, the first conference of Czech Armenologists, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Armenia's independence, and the official presentation of the Armenian Chair, that had started functioning within the University this year, took place in the main hall of the Rectorate of the Charles University in Prague, under the high auspices of the Rector of Charles University Tomáš Zima, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University Michal Pullmann.

Over 30 representatives of various Czech universities, the Czech Academy of Sciences and other scientific-research institutions participated in the conference, covering a vast array of topics, including the current state of Armenian Studies in the Czech Republic and the further prospects for its development, the Armenian history of the ancient, medieval and contemporary periods, issues related to Armenian historical-cultural heritage and the dangers threatening the latter, the Armenian European communities and the inter-relations, the Armenian Genocide and other topics.

The Rector of Charles University Tomáš Zima, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Michal Pullmann and the Head of the Department of East European Studies Stanislav Tumis delivered opening remarks, whereby signifying the symbolism of holding such an event within the framework of the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s independence and expressed hopefulness that the newly opened Chair will proceed with fruitful activity.

Haig Utidjian, the Head of the Armenian Chair shared his views on the traditional Armenian Studies Program held at the University and the future activities of the Chair. Key-note speeches were presented by the Head of the Brno Masaryk University Center for Early Medieval Studies Ivan Foletti, professor of the Ostrava University Faculty of Arts Waldemar Deluga, historian at the Charles University Faculty of Humanities specialized in Armenian Studies Vratislav Kozák, the Coordinator of the Caucasian Studies Module at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Armenologist Petra Košťálová, historians Michal Řoutil from the University of Hradec Králové Faculty of Arts, and Marek Jandák from the Charles University Faculty of Arts specializing in the study of the Armenian Genocide, Armenologist and lecturer at the Armenian Studies Program of Charles University Milada Kiliánová and PhD student at the Charles University Faculty of Arts specialized in Armenian-Czech relations Anna Karapetyan. Guest speaker to the conference was a representative from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Head of the Department of Armenology at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University of Budapest Bálint Kovács. The discussions during the conference resulted in the outlining of the prospects and opportunities for further cooperation between the different institutions and individual researchers within Armenological topics․ The participants stressed the necessity to make such conferences and meetings continuous.
