Comments by the Ambassador of Armenia to Serbia Ashot Hovakimian to “Politika” daily, Belgrade, 29.09.2020

The actions of the Azerbaijani side constitute an act of aggression against the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh), which, in accordance with the provisions of the UN Charter, exercises its inherent right to self-defence and takes all necessary measures to repel the aggression and restore peace in the region.

As the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia H.E. Mr. Nikol Pashinyan stated, the recent aggressive statements of the Azerbaijani leadership, large-scale joint military exercises with Turkey, as well as the rejection of international monitoring requests clearly indicate this aggression was pre-planned and constitutes large-scale provocation against regional peace and security”.

The Armenian side strongly condemns the violent military actions and threats by Azerbaijan, which once again demonstrates the absolute absence of responsibility and sound judgement from this particular member of the international community.

We call on Azerbaijan to immediately stop the military aggression and hostilities towards the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and we urge the whole international community and all the countries, including Serbia to strongly condemn the military actions and threats of Azerbaijan.
