Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian paid tribute in memory Serbian pilots who died during the transportation of humanitarian aid to Armenia during the days of the Spitak earthquake in 1988

On December 12, Ambassador Ashot Hovakimian and the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Republic of Serbia, Lieutenant General Duško Žarković, in a solemn ceremony of the honorary Guard of the Serbian AF and AD, paid tribute and laid a wreath at the Armenian khachkar in Zemun, in memoriam of the Serb pilots Vladimir Erčić, Predrag Marinković, Milenko Simić, Milan Mićić, Boriša Mosurović, Milisav Petrović and Jovan Zisov who perished in the crash of the aircraft, which was delivering assistance to Armenia after the devastating Spitak earthquake of 1988.

The relatives of the pilots, representatives of the Armenian community and friends of Armenia were present at the ceremony. Afterwards, the Ambassador visited the city of Novi Sad and with the newly elected Mayor Milan Đurić paid a tribute and laid a wreath in memoriam of the Serb pilots at the Armenian khachkar located in the centre of the Novi Sad, on the ground of the former Armenian Church. The meeting of the Ambassador and the Mayor took place, where the issues of establishing cooperation between the Novi Sad and Gyumri were discussed. The Mayor and the Ambassador also met representatives of the Serbian Armenians and relatives of the pilots, who came to Novi Sad from different cities of Serbia to participate in the ceremony.
