The delegation of the Armenia-Czech Republic Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of RA, led by the Chairman of the Group Artur Hovhannisyan was on a working visit to the Czech Republic

The delegation of the Armenia-Czech Republic Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of RA, led by the Chairman of the Group Artur Hovhannisyan was on a working visit to the Czech Republic on June 7-9, 2022.

Within the framework of the visit, Artur Hovhannisyan and the Deputy Chair of the Commission on European Integration Mary Galstyan, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Czech Republic Ashot Hovakimian, were received by the First Vice President of the Senate of the Czech Parliament Jiří Růžička and the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament Olga Richterová and was further hosted by the Chairman of the Czech Republic-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Marek Benda and the members of the Group. The Armenian delegation hold meetings with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, chaired by Marek Ženíšek and the Committee on the Environment, led by Jana Krutáková, as well as with the Vice-Chairperson the Committee on EU Affairs of the Senate Jiří Čunek.

The sides discussed a wide array of issues on the bilateral agenda and, particularly, the prospects of further deepening the collaboration on the inter-parliamentary level, including Armenia’s reform agenda. The Armenian delegation briefed their counterparts on the current developments in Armenia and around its borders and the humanitarian challenges faced by the Armenian people, confirmed the Armenian position on the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The sides touched upon the agenda items within the Armenia-EU cooperation framework and the priorities of the upcoming Czech EU presidency.

During the meeting with the Committee on the Environment the main topics were the legislative and monitoring challenges faced in the field of mining industry and the spheres of water and wastewater management. The sides agreed to continue cooperating at the level of both parliaments.

The Armenian delegation visited the Prague Civil Society Center, where during a meeting with its Executive Director Rostislav Valvoda the role of the civil society in Armenia’s reform agenda was discussed.

Within the framework of the visit the Armenian delegation attended a reception on the occasion of the meeting between the Armenian-Czech and Czech-Armenian Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups and the awarding ceremony of state decorations of RA hosted by the Embassy of Armenia.
