Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian participated at the festive state celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Slovenian Statehood and the assuming of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU

On June 25, by the invitation of the President, the National Assembly and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian participated at the festive state celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Slovenian Statehood and the assuming of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

During the visit to Slovenia Ambassador was received by the Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković. The possibilities for cooperation between Yerevan and Ljubljana were discussed, with an emphasis on the necessity of organising cultural events and the importance of holding mutual visits.

At the meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Stanislav Raščan a wide range of issues of the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda were discussed․ The Ambassador in detail briefed his counterpart on the situation after the war unleashed against Artsakh by the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem and the humanitarian challenges faced by the country, particularly, the demand to Azerbaijan to urgently release all Armenian prisoners of war and captives. The State Secretary presented the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Ambassador visited also the office of the Slovenian “Enhancing Human Security” (ITF) organization. During the meeting with the Director of ITF Ambassador Tomaž Lovrenčič, the programs of cooperation and assistance to Armenia were discussed.

During the visit Ambassador met with the Chairman of the Slovenia-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Andrej Černigoj and the representatives of the small Armenian community of Slovenia.
