Event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia held in Prague

26 September, 2016

On September 26, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Czech Republic organized a reception at Prague Žofín Palace, dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia.

The event was attended by the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Mr. Jan Bartošek, members of the Government and Governors, the spiritual leader of the Czech Republic, the Archbishop of Prague Dominik Cardinal Duka, the Czech Orthodox leader Archbishop Michal, members of the Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, high-ranking officials of the Czech President’s office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions, representatives of the cultural spheres and business sector, the Armenian community.

In his congratulatory speech, the Armenian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Tigran Seiranian referred to the significant milestones achieved and challenges overcome during the 25 years of Armenian’s Independence; the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its resolution perspectives, adding that the day will come and Artsakh will formally join the family of independent nations. The Armenian Ambassador addressed also the issues of cooperation between Armenia and the EU, the high-level Armenian-Czech relations, highlighting the important role of the Armenian community in the Czech Republic in the development of those relations.

The Vice-Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Czech Parliament Jan Bartošek in its turn highly evaluated the level of existing Czech-Armenian relations, noting that Armenians like the Czech nation, having recovered its independence after a long time, are well aware of the price of that freedom. Wishing prosperity and peace to Armenian people, the Czech Christian-Democrat parliamentarian recalled his special warm feelings from the visit to Armenia in April of this year.

After the speeches the guests enjoyed the concert of the Armenian pianist of Lebanese descent Vartan Agopian and Czech violinist Lucie Bublíková, who played musical pieces from Arno Babajanian, Johan Svendsen and Antonín Dvořák.
