Armenian Wine-Tasting Event at the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

26 May, 2016

Mr. Robin Böhnisch, Chairman of the Czech Republic-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, on May 26, 2016 has organised in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic a wine-tasting evening dedicated to the Armenia`s Republic Day. H.E. Ms. Michaela Marksová-Tominová, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Honourable Mr. Jan Bartošek, Vice-Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, members of the Friendship Group and simply friends of Armenia were present.

"The First Republic of Armenia was established on May 28, 1918 and was the first modern Armenian state since the loss of Armenian statehood in the Middle Ages. By the end of 1920 it was unfortunately conquered by the Soviet Red Army, thus existed much less than the First Czechoslovak Republic, which was founded almost simultaneously, in October 1918. Both First republics remain in the memories of our peoples as symbols of the restoration of the independent statehood", - said Mr.Böhnisch in his address.

Ambassador Tigran Seiranian thanked all present for honouring the First Armenian State, which was created by a nation devastated by Genocide. Today the descendants of those who created the Republic are building a free and democratic society, heroically defending it from modern-time aggressors. The Armenian diplomat deeply appreciated the efforts of the friends of Armenia in the Czech Republic to built and enhance the friendly cooperation between two nations and their parliaments.

Mr. Jan Bartošek briefed on his recent trip to the Republic of Armenia and expressed firm commitment to continue his activities aimed at developing mutually beneficial Czech-Armenian relations.

Excellent Armenian wines "Hin Areni" and "Kataro" were introduced to attendees of the event.
